Irish cinema-goers are set to become the first in the world to experience digital cinema.

A company based in Co Tipperary, Avica Europe and Digital Cinema Ireland, is aiming to make Ireland the first country worldwide to have nationwide network of cinemas with digital screens.

An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has today officially opened Avica's new offices in Thurles.

Given record cinema attendance levels in Ireland Mr Ahern it's appropriate we should lead the way. He said it is important that everyone around the country can avail of the best quality and that digital cinema is the way of the future.
