The Department of Foreign Affairs is trying to trace up to 10 Irish people in parts of the United States affected by Hurricane Katrina this week.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is trying to trace up to 10 Irish people in parts of the United States affected by Hurricane Katrina this week.

The department said it had been unable to contact them as all lines of communication had been severed by the storm.

The 10, who include three teenagers from Blackrock in Co Louth, are all believed to have been evacuated to safety ahead of the hurricane.
