Two appear in court in Waterford death investigation
A man appeared in court tonight charged with the murder of a Co Waterford horse breeder.
Anthony Barnes, who turns 20 on Sunday, is accused of stabbing Dick Forristal, 66, at his home at Carrigavantry Stud near Tramore.
A second man, 21-year-old Andrew Halligan, also appeared at a special sitting of Waterford District Court and was charged with burglary in connection with the same incident.
Barnes, of Clonard Park, and Halligan, of Ardmore Park, both Ballybeg, were remanded in custody and will reappear at the court on July 28.
Mr Forristal was killed last Thursday after attending the funeral of Tara Whelan, 17, who died in a bomb blast in Turkey.
He was one of hundreds of mourners who attended the teenager’s funeral in Kilmeaden, several miles from his home.
A friend of the pensioner discovered his body at the rural farmhouse.
Mr Forristal was a well-known horse breeder and his horse, Blue Corrig, was scheduled to race in the Galway Festival next week.
