Ahern to discuss security with Turkish counterpart
Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern is expected to discuss the issue of security for Irish tourists when he meets his Turkish counterpart in Ankara today.
Mr Ahern is due to travel to the city as part of a previously-scheduled visit in his role as an envoy on United Nations reform.
The agenda has changed, however, following the death of an Irish girl in a bomb attack at the resort of Kusadasi on Saturday.
Seventeen-year-old Tara Whelan died along with four other tourists when the minibus they were travelling on was bombed by suspected Kurdish militants.
She is due to be buried in her home town of Kilmeadan in Co Waterford tomorrow.
