The National Roads Authority has reportedly agreed to review its objection to the construction of service stations along new motorways in Ireland.

The state agency has come in for criticism from haulage associations and other motoring groups due to its opposition to service stations at the side of motorways.

The NRA had been opposing such developments in favour of building service areas on slip roads just off the country’s main routes.

However, reports this morning said it had now agreed to review the policy following a request from Transport Minister Martin Cullen.

NRA chief executive Fred Barry is expected to be questioned further on the matter when he appears before the Oireachtas transport committee today.
