Soldiers defused a device discovered on a railway line in Northern Ireland today.

Army explosives experts carried out a controlled explosion on the device found on a stretch between Lisburn and Moira in Co Armagh.

Trains in the area were cancelled amid fears of attacks as the loyalist marching season reached its climax with the Twelfth of July demonstrations.

But a major security operation began when the device was discovered.

Police have not revealed the scale of the device, but the remains have been removed for forensic examination.
