Former Fianna Fáil Minister for Justice Sean Doherty has been taken seriously ill.

Former Fianna Fáil Minister for Justice Sean Doherty has been taken seriously ill.

He was taken to Letterkenny Hospital yesterday evening after suffering a stroke and may now be on a life support machine.

Mr Doherty was Minister for Justice under Charles Haughey and in 1992 accused Haughey of being aware of phone taps on two political writers while he was Taoiseach in 1982.

Haughey denied this but, bowing to the inevitable, eventually decided to resign.
