Adoption body condemns court ruling on access to records
Adoption Ireland has condemned a High Court decision not to release information to an adopted woman about her biological mother.
The Information Commissioner had ruled that a health board should provide the woman with non-identifying information about her natural mother.
However, the High Court overturned that ruling yesterday, saying it could prevent pregnant women from confiding in the health board in the future.
Adoption Ireland has described the decision as "seriously flawed", saying adopted people had a right to know their biological origins.
