Three men arrested in crackdown on gun crime
Gardaí have arrested three men in Meath as part of Operation Anvil, which was set up to target armed gangs and gun crime in Dublin, it emerged today.
Detectives carried out the arrests during a raid of a house in Navan yesterday and seized a firearm and body armour.
All three men are from West Dublin.
A bench warrant had been issued for two of the men and they appeared before a special sitting of Navan District Court last night.
They were remanded in custody and will appear before Mullingar District Court on June 2.
The third man was being detained today under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
Gardaí from Blanchardstown, Navan and units from National Support Services took part in the raid.
Operation Anvil was set up two weeks ago in response to a series of gangland murders.
The Government has allocated €6.5m in funding to finance 15,000 additional hours of Garda overtime for the operation each week.
Last Thursday, gardaí raided 20 locations across Dublin as part of Operation Anvil and seized firearms, vehicles, drugs, cash and financial records.
