FG TD demands safety improvements on all school buses

Fine Gael TD Olivia Mitchell has called for safety improvements on all school buses following yesterday's tragedy near Navan in Co Meath.

Five teenage schoolgirls were killed when their bus collided with two other vehicles at Casey's Cross at around 4.30pm yesterday.

Ms Mitchell has responded by calling for seat-belts to be fitted on all school buses and for an end to the practice of diverting old buses from public routes into school services.

"Why is it that buses that aren't considered fit for use by the rest of us can be used to transport our children to school?" she asked.
