Gardaí appeal for witnesses to Westmeath assault

A 40-year-old man remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following an assault in County Westmeath early this morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened outside a GAA club on Devlin Road in Mullingar.

A private 21st birthday party was taking place at the club at the time of the incident and gardaí want to talk to anyone who was in the area.

It is not yet known whether the man – who sustained serious head injuries - was a guest at the party.
