Anti-racism group seeks return of other Nigerian deportees

The Residents Against Racism organisation has vowed to keep up its campaign for the return of all the Nigerian people deported to their home country by the Government two weeks ago.

The group has arranged a rally at the GPO in Dublin tomorrow to highlight the matter.

Earlier today, one of the deported Nigerians, 20-year-old Leaving Cert student Olukunle Elukanlo, returned back to Ireland to complete his studies.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell granted Mr Elukanlo a six-month study visa after his friends and classmates demanded that he be allowed back.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's protest, Residents Against Racism spokesperson Rosanna Flynn said Mr Elukanlo's case had raised awareness of the cruelty to deportations.

"For the first time, consciousness has been raised throughout Ireland," she said.

"People are angry and they're going to come out in great numbers for our demonstration tomorrow from all corners of Ireland."
