Conference to discuss Alzheimer's treatments
Doctors and other health professionals are meeting in Dublin this week to discuss how to combat Alzheimer's Disease.
The condition, which is the eighth most common cause of death in the developed world, affects more than 35,000 people and Ireland and is becoming more common due to the country's ageing population.`
Speaking ahead of this week’s meeting, Dr Dominic Walsh of UCD said a concerted effort to tackle the problem now would save a lot of money in the years to come.
“What we need to do is join the world community of researchers and get a cure for it before it becomes such a problem that it is going to swamp the health system,” he said.
