Harney promises new budget estimate after nursing home ruling

The Tánaiste and Minister for Health, Mary Harney, has told the Dáil that an additional budget estimate will be introduced to pay compensation arising out of yesterday's Supreme Court ruling on nursing home fees.

The State is facing a bill of at least €500m after the court ruled that an attempt to retrospectively legalise such fees was unconstitutional.
