McAleese: Solidarity with quake sufferers 'positive'

President Mary McAleese has praised the Irish people for their response to the devastation in Asia after the massive earthquake six days ago.

The President was speaking after a New Year mass for peace in Sandymount, Dublin.

She said the goodness that people have shown through a sense of solidarity with those suffering is the one positive result of the recent events.
