CORI publishes book on need for national strategy on fairness
Two economists from NUI Galway are calling for the development of a new National Fairness Strategy to help build a future without poverty and inequality.
Doctors Eamon O’Shea and Brendan Kennelly claim sustained economic growth has not led to a fairer society in terms of income, health and education.
Their claims are being published in a new book entitled Spirituality and Poverty in a Land of Plenty, being published by the Conference of Religious of Ireland.
Fr Sean Healy of the CORI Justice Commission supports the call for the establishment of a Fairness Strategy to tackle poverty and inequality effectively and coherently.
Fr Healy said that despite Ireland's economic boom, the rich/poor gap is widening, and the number of people at risk of poverty has grown to almost 750,000.
