Fresh appeal on pensioner murder anniversary

Detectives investigating the brutal murder of a Co Down pensioner exactly a year ago today have made a fresh appeal for help in tracking down his killers.

Ted O’Hare, 73, was found dead at his farmhouse in Loughbrickland by his three brothers after five men ransacked and burgled the house.

The brothers themselves were assaulted by the gang who fled the house after a struggle.

On the first anniversary of the death, police issued E-fit photographs of three suspects who they want to speak to about similar, potentially linked, crimes against the elderly in the area.

In a direct appeal for help, Detective Chief Superintendent Derek Williamson said: “Even though it is now one year since Mr O’Hare’s murder, police remain committed to follow every possible lead in the investigation.

“I am convinced that there are people who have a knowledge of events leading to the death of Mr O’Hare.”

Urging anyone with information to contact police, he promised: “Every little piece of information could be of immense value and could make a significant difference.”

A number of people have been arrested during the past year in connection with the murder, but no-one has yet been charged.
