Government urged to support care in the home
A group representing families who care for children and the elderly at home is calling for greater Government support in the forthcoming Budget.
The organisation WITH says the cost to the exchequer would be far less if older people and children were cared for at home rather than in are centres or crèches.
Spokesperson Caitriona Lynch said the current situation where it is cheaper for families to pay for care outside the home is ludicrous, given the strength of the Irish economy.
Ms Lynch urged the Government to do more to support those who want to stay at home to look after family members.
