Road safety summit to be held in Dublin
The Ministers for Transport and Justice, the Garda Commissioner and officials from the National Roads Authority and National Safety Council are due to attend a summit on road safety in Dublin today.
The meeting was arranged by the Government in response to a significant rise in road deaths so far this year.
So far 292 people have died in road accidents this year, the latest being a man in his 20s whose car collided with a tree in Co Monaghan last night.
Today's talks will focus in particular on the number of single-car crashes that occur in the early hours of the morning at weekends.
