Newman appeals for more charity cash
Veteran Hollywood actor Paul Newman today appealed for more donations for his Barretstown Gang Camp so “more kids can experience its magic“.
Newman was attending the 10th anniversary celebrations of his charity camp where 1,500 children – some terminally ill- visit each year.
The 79-year-old told guests: “I am delighted to see how Barretstown his grown and developed.
“But we need more money so more kids can visit here to experience its magic.”
A series of anniversary fundraising events have been planned all year to aid Barretstown, founded by Newman in 1994.
Yesterday, Newman whizzed around Mondello race track in a red Ferrari, which was later auctioned off for the charity.
He later attended a €5,000-a-head gala dinner with businessman Michael Smurfit and Mondello track owner Martin Birrane.
Forthcoming events include a golf classic at Rathsallagh Golf Course, Co Kildare, later this month and a Christmas Opera at Barretstown in December.
Newman is set to appear in a new animation film Cars, and a new comedy Empire Falls.
