BOI to empty selected ATMs in security drive

Bank of Ireland today confirmed it was increasing ATM security features after a number of "hole in the wall" type attacks on its branch machines in recent weeks.

The bank is introducing enhanced security features in order to prevent further similar type incidents.

Anne Mathews, media relations manager, Bank of Ireland said: "We have identified a small number of locations that could potentially be vulnerable to similar type attacks.

"It is our intention to remove the cash from these ATMs after close of business until the new security features are in place. These are expected to be in place in a very short timeframe."

Bank of Ireland advised that this will impact on only a very small number of branch locations and that it was a short term measure in order to protect the continuity of service to our customers.
