Gardaí send file on National Irish Bank to DPP
The Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigations has sent a file on the National Irish Bank scandal to the Director of Public Prosecutions, according to newspaper reports.
The file is said to centre on an alleged "conspiracy" by a number of senior bankers. It consists of a number of interviews with staff at the bank, both past and present.
The Garda investigation was separate to the High Court probe, the results of which were released last Friday.
That investigation, conducted by former Supreme Court judge, John Blayney, and accountant Tom Grace, found that 19 bank employees knew of the non-resident bank accounts during the 90s.
The report also stated that NIB had aided tax evasion, and over-charged customers.
The Director of Corporate Enforcement, Paul Appleby, said last Friday that he would be liasing with the DPP to consider the possibility of taking criminal action against the bank.
