Ahern under fire for McCreevy appointment

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has come under fire in the European Parliament over his appointment of Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy as Ireland’s EU Commissioner.

Socialist MEPs said the appointment was a move towards a “supermarket Europe” because of Mr McCreevy’s right-wing economic policies.
