Taxi drivers opposed to lifting of seatbelt exemption
The Irish Taxi Drivers Federation, which represents 3,000 drivers, has said it is strongly opposed to the lifting of the exemption on taxi drivers not wearing seat belts in their cabs.
The drivers' body was reacting to today’s announcement by the Minister for Transport that he would be removing the exemption later this week.
Minister Brennan, however, asks that all those affected by the new legislation change see it as a road safety measure to aid the reduction of road deaths in Ireland.
