Lawyers express opposition to impending Bush visit

A group of 170 solicitors and barristers has added its voice to the campaign against the impending visit of US President George W Bush.

The lawyers have signed a joint statement outlining their opposition to Mr Bush’s visit to Co Clare to attend an EU-US summit.

They have accused the US President of breaking international law.

One of the signatories, Giollaíosa Ó Lideadha, said it was the duty of ordinary people to stand up to Mr Bush and his policies.

“Are we going to do something about the very dangerous policies of Bush or are we going to just sit there and say: ‘Well, we can’t do anything’?” he asked.
