‘Irish engagement crucial to resolving Ugandan conflict’
The aid agency Concern has claimed that Irish engagement with the Ugandan Government is crucial to resolving the ongoing conflict in the country and providing aid to the poor.
Tom Arnold, the agency’s chief executive, told the Oireachtas foreign affairs committee today that Ireland should play a “leadership role” and involve the EU in the conflict resolution process in Uganda.
He also said an international military force was needed to end the conflict.
Around 1.5 million people have been displaced from their homes because of the war, while thousands of children have also been abducted to fight for the rebel Lords Resistance Army.
