Europe’s meat industry holds talks in Dublin

Key figures in the European meat trade will gather in Dublin this week to discuss the pressures facing the industry.

The European Meat Forum will debate current nutrition and diet trends.

The Irish contingent will discuss how to maximise the export market.

Director of Operations at Bord Bia, Aidan Cotter, says the meat industry is vital to the Irish economy.

“Most farms have livestock on them and meat is extremely important in terms of the industry’s export business,” he said.

“Meat and livestock counts for about 25% of the industry’s total food exports.

"Beef itself counted for about €1.3bn worth of exports last year”.
