New research has revealed that two thirds of couples with relationship problems feel less stressed about their lives after receiving counselling.

New research has revealed that two thirds of couples with relationship problems feel less stressed about their lives after receiving counselling.

The Family Support Agency has surveyed people over a three-year period and found that just the decision to seek help is in itself a relief.

A third of people have said they have a happier relationship together after seeing a counsellor.

Co-author of the report Kieran McKeown said: “The actual decision to go for counselling itself can indeed restore hopefulness and people's natural abilities to solve problems, and of course the main influence on changing any relationship is the couple themselves, not the counsellor.”
