A website which features the diversity and beauty of European landscapes was launched today to mark the accession to the European Union of the new member states on May 1.

The initiative features exhilarating images of a myriad of landscapes from across Europe as a way of celebrating a remarkable shared heritage for this Day of Welcomes.

John Browne, Junior Minister at the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, launched the initiative today.

Hosted on the website of the Geological Survey of Ireland (www.gsi.ie) it can also be accessed by hot-link from the Irish EU presidency site.

The initiative is the result of co-operation between the relevant National Geological Surveys, and the Minister of State expressed his appreciation of their collaboration on this worthwhile service.
