Taoiseach launches housing initiative in Dublin
The first affordable housing initiative project in Dublin city is being launched by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, today.
The Taoiseach is turning the sod on the site, at the junction of Finglas Road and Tolka Valley, along with Dublin Lord Mayor Royston Brady.
This affordable housing development on 10 acres consists of a mix of private, affordable and senior citizen homes, along with 150 affordable apartments, a crèche, a medical centre, retail units and a hotel.
The site will be developed by McCabe Builders Limited.
“This initiative is an important addition to the supply of housing by Dublin City Council,” said Brendan Kenny, Dublin's Assistant City Manager.
“We envisage that these apartments will be available for sale in late 2005.”
Under the ‘Sustaining Progress’ pay agreement, the Affordable Housing Initiative was agreed to enhance the supply of affordable housing countrywide by 10,000 units.
In Dublin city the Government released state owned lands at Infirmary Road, Jamestown Road, Inchicore, St Bricin’s and Harcourt Terrace to Dublin City Council.
In addition, Dublin City Council allocated sites in its ownership at Cherry Orchard, Malahide Road and Finglas Road as part of the Affordable Housing Initiative.
