Two men accused of placing a bomb beneath the car of a man with links to loyalist terrorists were remanded in custody today.

Stanley Curry, aged 46, and William Shaw, aged 35, appeared before Bolton magistrates charged with conspiracy to cause an explosion with intent to endanger life.

The charges relate to an incident in Bolton in December last year, when a device was allegedly attached under the car of John Thompson, a former associate of the jailed UDA terror boss Johnny ’Mad Dog’ Adair.

The alleged device detonated but did not fully explode.

Shaven-headed Shaw appeared in the dock wearing a green bomber jacket and blue tracksuit trousers.

Curry, who has cropped white hair, was dressed in a blue sports top and jeans.

Both men spoke only to confirm their name and age. Their addresses were not made public for legal reasons.

Both men were remanded in custody to appear before Bolton Crown Court on April 22.
