Catholic church damaged in Belfast paint attack

Police in the North are investigating a paint attack on a Catholic church on Bryson Street in east Belfast last night.

The walls of St Matthew’s Church and a stained-glass window were damaged in the attack, which happened at around 9pm.

The incident is believed to be linked to the vandalism of a nearby memorial to two IRA victims on Monday night.

Green paint was thrown over that memorial on the Newtownards Road.

Local people said footprints suggested the culprits came from the mainly nationalist Short Strand area.
