O'Reilly to appear at Moriarty Tribunal

Sir Anthony O’Reilly, the chairman of eircom and Independent News and Media, is due to give evidence to the Moriarty Tribunal later today.

Mr O’Reilly is expected to be questioned about his involvement in a consortium that lost out to ESAT Digifone in the competition to secure Ireland’s second mobile licence in 1995.

Previous witnesses have revealed that Mr O’Reilly was unhappy with the outcome of the competition.

The tribunal also heard yesterday that Independent News and Media was hostile towards the Rainbow Coalition of the time.
