Boy still critical after horror crash
A five-year-old boy injured in an accident which killed four other members of his family remains in a serious condition in hospital today.
Con Downes was in the car at the time of Thursday's horrific multi-vehicle collision on the Cork-Dublin road between Cahir and Mitchelstown.
The crash killed Mary Dalton, aged 71, her daughters Mary Downes (Con's mother), aged 31, Kathleen Quish, aged 47, and Mary’s other son, three-year-old son Robbie.
Mary’s only other son, Con is "critical but stable", a spokeswoman for Cork University Hospital said.
“He is critical but stable. His condition is unchanged,” a spokeswoman said this morning.
Gardaí are still investigating the cause of the accident which took place at about 7.30am on a clear day.
Four other lorries were involved in the crash and two of the lorry drivers were taken to hospital where they were described as “stable”.
Cahir gardaí have issued a public appeal for help from anyone who was travelling on the Cork-Dublin road between 7am-7.30am.
