IFA President says EU enlargement must stop
The President of the Irish Farmers Association, John Dillon, says that EU enlargement should be halted.
Mr Dillon was speaking at the organisation’s AGM in Limerick this evening.
He says the existing CAP budget is picking up the cost of enlargement for the ten new member states due to join in May, with Romania and Bulgaria due to follow in 2007.
Addressing IFA members, Mr Dillon said the EU would be in chaos if more countries are allowed to join: "I’m saying tonight, 27 countries and no more. Otherwise the EU will collapse in chaos."
