People with disabilities demand more accessible transport
The Minister for Transport is being urged by disability groups to introduce legislation to make transport more accessible.
The National Disability Authority has acknowledged that much progress has been made in recent years, but said regulations are needed to ensure accessibility across the board.
Authority chairperson Angela Kearns wants the Government to give a firm commitment to those with disabilities.
"Every day that (a person with disabilities) cannot get on a train and every day that you cannot access public transport for someone with a disability, is too long.
"But we have seen substantial progress in the last numbers of years. We need to give credit for that. For the likes of Dublin Bus, coaches and on the rail in particular, we need to see significant Government investment.”
