UUP conference expects call for party unity
A call for party unity is expected from David Trimble, leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, at its annual conference in Armagh today, despite continuing internal rows.
The Northern Secretary, Paul Murphy, and the chief constable, Hugh Orde, will be guest speakers at the conference.
The conference is expected to hear many calls for a tough stand on the IRA in negotiations with Sinn Féin.
The party is badly split between the majority who support the Good Friday Agreement and a vocal minority who oppose it.
