Collapsing bridge casts doubt on future of rail line
The future of the Waterford-Limerick rail line has been thrown into serious doubt today following the collapse of a bridge in Cahir, Co Tipperary this morning.
At least 10 rail transport carriages fell into the River Suir as a result.
The locomotive and several carriages made it safely across the river before the bridge caved-in.
Fears that the cost of a replacement bridge may prove prohibitive have prompted Fine Gael's Transport spokesperson, Denis Naughton, to demand a commitment from the Government on the issue.
