The Irish Council for Civil Liberties has criticised the Government for continually denying people the right to have a lawyer present when being questioned by the Gardaí.

The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture has urged the Irish Government to introduce such a right on three separate occasions over the past eight years, but no action has been taken.
