Inquests into Monaghan bomb deaths to reopen today

The inquests into the deaths of seven people in the loyalist bombing of Monaghan town almost 30 years ago are due to reopen in Dublin today.

The seven people died when a loyalist car bomb exploded in the centre of Monaghan on May 17, 1974.

The inquests into the deaths of 26 people who died in three loyalist car bombs in Dublin on the same day were reopened in June.

The Dublin and Monaghan bombings marked the single largest loss of life on any day during the Troubles.

There have long been suspicions that the British security services colluded with the loyalist paramilitaries who carried out the attacks.
