Elderly man dies in Clare gorse fire

An 89-year-old man has died in a gorse fire in Co Clare.

The man's body was discovered today by a neighbour, close to his home in Miltown Malbay.

Gardaí said the man appeared to lose his footing while burning grass at around 6pm yesterday and he became entangled in bushes and unable to escape the flames.

His body was taken to the Midwestern Regional Hospital in Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out.
