Two children die in holiday crash
A minibus collided with a truck near Stockholm today, killing two Irish children and injuring five people, officials said.
The truck driver, and a woman and three children in the minibus were injured, officials said, but declined to identify any of the victims.
The accident happened on the road near Oesmo, about 30 miles south of the Swedish capital, when one of the truck’s tyres exploded causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, police spokesman Gert Rosvall said.
A one-year-old girl died at the scene and a five-year-old boy died after being airlifted to a hospital in Stockholm, Rosvall said.
The other injuries were not expected to be life-threatening, a hospital spokeswoman said, adding that the Irish family in the minibus had been on holiday in Sweden.
It was not immediately clear if all seven people in the minibus were from Ireland and were from the same family.
