Mob attacks house in Belfast

Trouble broke out in east Belfast during the night when a crowd of around 30 people stormed into a street off the Newtownards Road and attacked a house.

Police said the house and a car in Evelyn Avenue were damaged and they were investigating reports of shots being fired into the crowd during the incident. There were no reports of anyone being injured.

During a follow-up search, police recovered a handgun from a house in the avenue.

A short distance away, windows in houses at Bloomfield Court and Bloomfield Parade were shattered in stoning attacks.

Police were also investigating reports that around the same time last night, three cars were set on fire at Station Road off the old Holywood Road.

The police spokeswoman said they were unclear about what had sparked the sudden outbreak of violence.
