Four remanded in connection with explosive find

Four men charged in connection with the discovery of explosives finds during garda raids in Co Louth last week were further remanded when they appeared before the Special Criminal Court today.

Four men charged in connection with the discovery of explosives finds during garda raids in Co Louth last week were further remanded when they appeared before the Special Criminal Court today.

Lawyers for the four were due to make a bail application today but the court heard that interview notes relevant to the application have not yet been furnished to the defense.

Before the court were: Joseph Fee, aged 39, of Blackstaff, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan; Seamus McKenna, aged 48, of Marian Park, Dundalk, Co Louth and Gregory Trainor, aged 37, Culdee Road, Co Armagh, all charged with possession of nitrate and sugar (ANS), an explosive substance on June 13, 2003 at Thornfield, Iniskeen, Co Louth.

Eamonn Matthews, aged 24, of Dublin Road, Kileen, Newry Co Down was charged with membership of an illegal organisation styling itself Oglaigh na Heireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on June 12 2003 within the state.

The four were remanded until June 30.
