Chernobyl child gets presidential welcome

President Mary McAleese has formally welcomed the 10,000th child from the Chernobyl area to arrive in Ireland.

President Mary McAleese has formally welcomed the 10,000th child from the Chernobyl area to arrive in Ireland.

Eight-year-old Masha Lischanina from Southern Belarus met the President at Aras an Uachtarain this afternoon.

The reception is being attended by children staying at various locations in Ireland this summer.

They are being led by Adi Roche of the Chernobyl Children's Project.
