Special Olympics takes to Ireland's roads

Toyota Ireland has provided the Special Olympics organisers with the biggest fleet of cars ever to be used at a sporting event in Ireland.

The company has supplied 285 vehicles to enable the delegates and organisers travel to the four corners of the country.

Toyota is sponsor of the Special Olympics families programme and has been involved with the organisation of the World Games from an early stage.

The provision of the 285 cars is critical to the success of the games as it provides huge logistical back up to the organisers.

Commenting as the handover of the fleet, David Shannon, Managing Director, Toyota Ireland said:

"As World Games and Family Programme sponsors we are happy to do our utmost to ensure that every family member and delegate who attends the World Games will have a unique and memorable experience.

The 2003 Special Olympics World Games will be the biggest sporting event in the world this year.

Ten thousand athletes, coaches and delegates will be attending from 160 international delegations.

The Games begin next Saturday with the opening ceremony in Croke Park followed by seven days of competition at 23 venues throughout the greater Dublin area and Belfast.

The closing ceremony will also take place in Croke Park on June 29.
