Army experts dismantle huge van bomb
A huge van bomb containing 600lbs of explosives was today made safe in Derry City.
Army bomb disposal experts were sent to Clooney Road in the city where a red van had been abandoned with its hazard lights on.
When they inspected the vehicle, they discovered wires and a timer pack.
Following a controlled explosion in the van, police found a large bomb in two blue barrels.
The drama began earlier today when police saw the vehicle, a red Toyota Hiace van, acting suspiciously on the Foyle bridge.
Today's discovery follows a similar find in Co Louth, when gardaà investigating dissident Republican activities recovered 500lbs of explosives.
Six men are currently being questioned in connection with the find.
Police in Northern Ireland have also arrested a man as part of the operation.
