The Society of Chartered Physiotherapists has called on parents to encourage their children to take more exercise.

The call follows research showing that fitness levels among Irish children are below the European average.

The Society of Chartered Physiotherapists has also urged adults to walk to work and use the stairs at the office rather then the lift.

A spokesperson said lack of exercise among Irish people is leading to an increase in neck, back and weight problems.
