Donaldson: 'Volunteer doctors forced to stay in Iraq'

An Ulster Unionist MP has claimed that up to 12 voluntary medical staff from the North are being forced to stay in Iraq due to bureaucracy.

An Ulster Unionist MP has claimed that up to 12 voluntary medical staff from the North are being forced to stay in Iraq due to bureaucracy.

Jeffrey Donaldson said red tape was preventing the volunteers from returning home. He said there was no good reason why they should be retained in Iraq.

Some of the staff still in Iraq, he said, were surgeons who performed important roles in the North's hospitals. He said their families want them to come home.
