IMO wants tachometers in all State cars
The Irish Medical Organisation has called for tachometers to be fitted in all State cars in an effort to stop ministers and other officials from flouting the speeding laws.
The organisation voted unanimously in favour of the move at its annual convention in Killarney last night.
Tachometers are fitted in the cabs of trucks to monitor speeds and distances.
Former IMO president Declan Bedford, who proposed last night’s motion, said: "We have seen ministers several times being reported driving far too fast, at very dangerous speeds, and they should be leading by example.
"Sooner or later there’s going to be a fatal accident. Unless they change their behaviour, they should have their journey times monitored and continuously altered so they reduce those speeds and lead by example."
